Currents | September 2016

Did you know that the Great Lakes are the biggest freshwater source in the world? Lake Erie is the most productive for fishing of all the Great Lakes. Your support helps make our streams clean, clear and healthy so they can support this complex ecosystem. By donating to PCS, you help us reach our goals of restoring rivers that lead to Lake Erie beaches that promote fishable and swimmable conditions for generations.

September1Only a few more days to register for the 20th Annual Clean Your Streams Day on September 17th! You need to register by Sunday, September 11th to save your spot at one of the eight kickoff locations.  Volunteering for Clean Your Streams is an opportunity to participate in not only northwest Ohio’s largest stream cleanup, but also the International Coastal Cleanup happening in dozens of different countries that same day. The cleanup will begin with check-in at 8:00am Saturday morning, followed by a brief orientation on safety and cleaning protocols. Volunteers will then disperse to their respective cleanup sites and spend the next 3 hours removing trash of all sorts from the riverbanks. Afterwards, we celebrate our volunteers’ accomplishments at the Appreciation Picnic, where we serve lunch, award the Challenge winners, raffle off prizes, and recognize the hard work of the volunteers that morning. Over the last 19 years of Clean Your Streams, volunteers have removed approximately 120 tons of trash from local rivers, streams, and lakes. If you have already registered for Clean Your Streams, thank you! If you have not, register today and be a part of this community effort to protect our waterways, now and for the future!
