Currents March 2018

Did you know that the Great Lakes are the biggest freshwater source in the world? Lake Erie is the most productive for fishing of all the Great Lakes. Your support helps make our streams clean, clear and healthy so they can support this complex ecosystem. By donating to PCS, you help us reach our goals of restoring rivers that lead to Lake Erie beaches that promote fishable and swimmable conditions for generations.

GCM logoAre you ready to run 26.2 miles next month? We’re not either, but we are ready to run the recycling program at Mercy Health Glass City Marathon on April 20th-22nd. Join PCS and volunteer to be part of the GCM Green Team for the third year in a row! We have partnered with Toledo Roadrunners in an effort to make this marathon as environmentally sustainable as possible. We will be out at the University of Toledo over the weekend of events with an educational table and doing our best to divert all recyclable materials from a lifetime in a landfill. So far in this partnership, we recycled 1650 pounds of glass, 2600 pounds of cardboard, 165 pounds of plastic overwrap and Heatsheets, 150 pounds of plastic water bottles and cups, 360 pounds of paper cups, and 46 pounds of Energy Gel packets. That’s literally tons of recycling! But we need a bigger team to meet all of these recycling needs. We have one shift on Saturday 4/21 from 8-11:30 am and two on Sunday 4/22 from 6:30-10:30 am and 10:30-2:30 pm. You can sign up through the Glass City Marathon volunteer page or through our volunteer signup form.

Help celebrate Earth Day this year by making the Marathon greener and keeping our rivers cleaner!
